Venice, Page two: travel notes and photos

View from bell tower

Friday, October 12: Elsa bought her Halloween costume today and she just had to wear it all day as we walked the streets of Venice. Shopkeepers, tourists, other little kids, etc. were all taking a look at Elsa the “Gondola Girl”. She didn’t seem to notice!!  🙂  If we could bottle that self confidence, we’d be bazillionaires!

We walked around for a while, had lunch, tried to find a place to mail a document back home (not fun), etc. it was a fun day.

After all of this, we found our way back to St. Mark’s where we took the Vaporetto to San Georgio to see the Belltower and the view of Venice.

After enjoying the view from the San Giorgio belltower, we took the vapporetto back, kids relaxed and we got organized for our trip tomorrow.

About 6:30 or so, we left for dinner and saw that the line at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum was considerably shorter than earlier and there was no charge to enter so we did a quick walk through.  Not the best idea considering the kids were hungry and tired.  It was very brief but on my quick whirlwind, I did see some nice Picassos, Joan Miros, a Mark Rothko and a room full of Jackson Pollack paintings.  Nice museum but a bit of a blur.

We enjoyed a nice final Venice meal before heading back to the apartment.

Venice was treat! My only complaints were that it was hard to find grocery stores and a decent bakery.  I am getting way too spoiled in some of these places.

Tomorrow, we leave Venice for Rome. Our train departs at 10:30. I will be sad to say good-bye to Venice – what a wonderful place – but am excited to get to Rome where we can settle in for 2 1/2 weeks!

Thanks for reading. Miss you all.
